Beard Dandruff, What Is It?
Beard dandruff can be caused by a lot of different things. Just when you’ve grown a lavish, lush beard you can start having problems you wouldn’t otherwise have if your face was shaved clean. Or, then again, maybe you have a hard time growing a beard and when you finally do, the trouble starts. Here are some signs of beard dandruff:
1)Dry skin under beard and mustache – You have what seems to be little pieces of Parmesan cheese gathered throughout your beard.
2) You have horrible itching on your face that makes you crazy
The first time you have flakes in your beard, you more than likely have beard dandruff and you should treat it immediately for several reasons.
What Causes Beard Dandruff?
First and foremost, when growing a beard, mild itching is absolutely normal. As your beard grows in stages, your skin will itch simply because of the new beard and the stubble. Don’t worry until you see flakes in your beard (but try not to itch because it will cause irritation!)
The causes of dandruff can include and are not limited to:
-skin yeast (normally the number one culprit when it comes to beard dandruff)
-increase in skin oils
-decrease in washing your beard (it has to be shampooed too!)
-comprised immune system (less common)
-changes in weather (especially dry air)
-cold weather
-chronic conditions
-can be genetic
-high stress can lead to skin problems and beard dandruff
Whatever is causing your beard dandruff, you’ll want to treat it so that it’s not an issue!
How To Get Rid of Beard Dandruff and dry skin under beard and mustache
The first very easy way to get rid of beard dandruff is to simply shave your beard. For the most part, your facial skin will go back to normal. What happens when you have a beard is your face is no longer exposed to ultra violet light. Your beard hair blocks the ultra violet light, so ultra violet light prevents the growth of yeast on the skin. Once your skin is exposed to the light, the yeast will stop growing and your skin will retain it’s natural balance.
Of course, shaving the beard is not every man’s favorite idea. After all- growing a beard is hard work and once you’ve successfully grown it, you want to enjoy it for awhile. There are other ways to get rid of your beard dandruff without having to take such a drastic measure.
Say No to head and shoulders
When people hear ‘dandruff’ they automatically think of dandruff shampoos like ‘Head and Shoulders’ which we’ve seen on the television commercials for decades. It’s supposed to get rid of dandruff from the scalp, but beard dandruff is a different animal. There are harsh detergents and chemicals in these kind of shampoos that can really irritate the face and make the condition worse. Products like Head and Shoulders are meant for the scalp, and are definitely not supposed to be used on more sensitive facial skin. So, don’t use dandruff shampoos on your face, it won’t work and it won’t help.
What you can do, is begin a beard washing and cleaning regimen. There are several products you can use that are made especially for the beard, but you also might try a natural remedy.
The following are several products that may help you get rid of your beard dandruff, or prevent beard dandruff as well:
1) Jojoba Oil and Almond Oil are natural oils that you can apply directly to your facial skin. Another natural remedy is Aloe Vera, which moisturizes the skin and prevents it from drying out and flaking. The oils and the Aloe Vera keep your skin moist and avoid drying out your face.
Grizzly Adam beard oil helps to hydrate your skin and also to look after your beard at the same time. It works to provide essential oil to your skin and this penetrates the follicles of your hair. When your hair follicles are well moisturised this helps to ensure that your hair does not dry out or become brittle. Moisturised skin will be soft and smooth and using beard oil helps to avoid itchy or flaky skin which can cause discomfort.
2) Beard dandruff shampoos can be very helpful for getting rid of, or preventing beard dandruff, leaving your beard clean and fresh. This 200ml beard wash by Grizzly Adam is ideal for men that suffer from beard itch and beard dandruff.
3) Try to remain as stress free as possible. Stress can lead to skin conditions and itchy facial skin. Yoga and other relaxation exercises are a wonderful way to reduce stress. Meditation is a good idea as well. It’s easier said than done, but reducing stress does wonders for the body!
Conclusion
Beard dandruff can be embarrassing. If you walk around with flakes in your beard, it might look like you are saving some food for later (but it will mostly just look gross and make you feel pretty gross too!).
The best thing you can do is prevent the beard dandruff in the first place by remaining stress free and treating your face with natural oils. Also, it’s never too soon or too late to use beard oil and a beard wash regularly. This way, you can have your manly beard looking good from day one!
